July had a steamy start as the much-awaited Mirzapur Season 3 landed on Prime Video. Given the buzz around Guddu Pandit (played by Ali Fazal) becoming the ‘King of Mirzapur’, the intimate moment between Chhote Tyagi (played by Vijay Varma) and Saloni bhabhi (played by Neha Sargam) was certainly something fans weren’t expecting. While Varma, known for his sophisticated portrayal of intimacy in Lust Stories and Mirzapur Season 2, brought his usual finesse, it was first time that Sargam was seen in such a role.

Speaking to indianexpress.com, Neha Sargam, who proudly tags herself as an accidental actor, opened up about shooting the scene with Vijay Varma, her off-screen chemistry with the actor and the newfound social media recognition.

Talking about how Varma made sure she was comfortable before shooting the scene, the actor said, “Vijay and I had a very good time on the sets. I saw that he was really trying to make me comfortable. He was like ‘Even I am scared’. He was saying this to make me comfortable.”

“Vijay sensed that I was very nervous. So he also discussed it with the director. My director, I don’t know how Guru sir had this confidence that I would do it. Vijay said that either you can do it well or you’ll look bad. So, I told myself that I have signed this show; you knew that this is not a family drama so now that you’re here, do it,” she added.

Sargam, who is winning hearts as ‘Saloni bhabhi’, never actually auditioned for it but for the role of Madhuri Yadav (played by Isha Talwar). “I was called for Madhuri’s character and got shortlisted, but clearly Isha was more apt for that role. However, Guru sir really liked my audition. So he was like ‘I’m definitely taking her in the show for something because she’s done a good job’. That’s how I landed the role,” the actor shared.

Speaking about being surrounded by noted actors on the sets of Mirzapur, the actor said, “It was a pleasure to work with Lilliput Faruqui ji. His body of work is so massive. Shweta was very warm. Nobody carried that weight around and it was so humbling.”

When asked if Mirzapur has helped her get good projects, Sargam said, “It’s too early. I hope that happens. And after doing Mirzapur, you have to also maintain a certain standard. You can’t take up anything. So I’m waiting and I just hope they consider me for good roles.”

Sargam began her career on the popular singing reality show Indian Idol and later appeared in several TV serials, including Chand Chupa Badal Mein and Doli Armaano Ki, among others.
