Disney+ Hotstar’s upcoming offering Pop Kaun looks like a laugh riot. The makers also took a rather interesting way to promote their show by using references to a number of Bollywood hits. After Zakhm and Pathaan, a new teaser sees lead actor Kunal Kemmu in the world of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham as he interrupts Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan’s emotional reunion.
The video sees Kunal replacing Hrithik Roshan in the film as the father-son, played by Big B and SRK, iron out their differences with a hug. As he wipes his tears watching the emotional moment, Saurabh Shukla’s character drops in and says, ‘While this son met his father, when will you find out about yours?’ This leaves him confused and sad as he wonders about the identity of his father. Then other characters from the show come in, including Satish Kaushik. Pop Kaun will be one of the last appearances by the late actor, who passed away earlier this month.
“Pop ki talaash mein kuch gham aur dher saari comedy lekar aaraha hai #HotstarSpecials #PopKaun – all episodes streaming from 17th March only on @disneyplushotstar,” read the caption of his post.
Pop Kaun, the comedy series revolves around Kunal Kemmu’s character trying to find out about his father. Actors Johnny Lever, Rajpal Yadav and Kaushik claim to be his father. The show marks the debut of Kriti Sanon’s sister Nupur Sanon, who plays Kemmu’s love interest in the series.
Earlier, Kemmu remembered Satish Kaushik while sharing the trailer, “A salute to the legend of comedy, @satishkaushik2178 ji whose work made us smile for years :) #HotstarSpecials #PopKaun – all episodes streaming from 17th March only on @disneyplushotstar.”
Helmed by Farhad Samjhi, Pop Kaun will stream on Disney Plus Hotstar from March 17. Talking about the show, the director earlier said in a statement, “After creating multiple movies in the comedy space, I wanted to explore a different format with this genre and bring all the legends of comedy together. With Pop Kaun, the idea was to create a fun family binge-watch show for audiences across generations.”
Satish Kaushik passed away on Wednesday after suffering a heart attack in Gurugram. He was cremated in Mumbai on Thursday.
