Jubilee actor Aparshakti Khurana on struggles, facing rejection: ‘I never got bitter’
In a chat with indianexpress.com, Aparshakti Khurana talks about his struggles, facing rejection and how he has always taken everything in his stride.

Vikramaditya Motwane is all set to bring alive the magic of the ‘golden age’ of cinema with Jubilee. The 10-episode series stars Aparshakti Khurana, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Aditi Rao Hydari, Wamiqa Gabbi and Siddhant Gupta, among others. Set in 1940s, the film will show the many facets of the world of cinema and the people involved in it.
The younger brother of Ayushmann Khurrana, Aparshakti made his debut with Dangal, followed by supporting roles in films like Stree, Luka Chuppi, Pati Patni Aur Woh, and more. With Jubilee, the actor has finally gotten a chance to showcase his mettle in one of the lead roles, playing Binod Das. Speaking to indianexpress.com, the actor said that while the wait has indeed been long, he feels grateful about how his career has panned out. “Har ek actor, jo iss sheher mein aaya hai usse lagta hai jaisa woh kaam karna chahta hai, woh nahi mil raha (Every actor who has come to this city feels that he is not able to do the kind of work he wants to). However, I must add that I never got bitter. And it was important as that’s when the journey normally ends. Good things stop happening if you get bitter.”
He added that while he wanted to do more, he was happy with the kind of work he was doing. “Look at where it has brought me. Just to be able to have gotten a chance to enter this year, and live it for one and a half years. This is the world that we have just seen in pictures and even in films. So good things do happen. I am grateful that I got to just dress up and be a part of this show. I feel blessed.”

In one of the scenes in the show, Aparshakti is rejected by the leading lady of the film, saying she ‘won’t work’ with him. As we wondered whether he too has faced a similar situation, the actor smiled to say, “Of course, it happened at the start, and it keeps happening and will happen. One has to take it in a positive way and be motivated. Just because you are rejected, doesn’t mean that you are a bad actor. It may mean you need to work harder on other aspects of the craft. Or the timing is just not right.”
He further added, “Five years back, no one would have imagined that we would be doing a show like this. So I only have gratitude in my heart. I would go with the same stance every day on set, not with any past disappointment. And I think most of us also had the same beliefs as we just fed off each others’ energy during the shoot. I think it’s really important to enjoy what you are doing.”
The first part of Jubilee consisting of five episodes will drop on April 7 and the rest episodes will follow next week.
