HBO renewed Euphoria for Season 3 back in 2022, and it took the franchise two long years to finally go on the floor. But good news for Nate Jacobs fans—the shooting has officially begun. According to Jacob Elordi, who’s in his wildest era yet, juggling multiple projects at the same time, he just shot his first scene and said the nostalgia hit him hard. Speaking about the upcoming third season to Entertainment Tonight, he described returning to set as stepping into a “time capsule.” But while fans are happy with the development, there’s also concern about whether Zendaya’s Rue will reprise her role, especially with major cast shake-ups expected, and a time jump in the upcoming storyline.
Basking in the success of Saltburn and Priscilla, Jacob’s calendar has been jam-packed with projects like The Narrow Road to the Deep North, Frankenstein and Wuthering Heights. But Euphoria is that one show that will always remind him of how his early days in the industry. Jacob was 21 when the first season dropped in 2019. He’s pushing 27 now. Same with co-stars like Sydney Sweeney, whose careers have skyrocketed since.

And while HBO and creator Sam Levinson are known to take their sweet time filming, Season 3 is officially underway “It was like stepping into a time capsule,” Elordi shared with Entertainment Tonight, smiling. “I mean, you also have to understand, this is, we grew up from you know, late teens into adults on that show. So it’s just like, it was beautiful. It was really touching to go back and step into an environment, like it was like stepping into a time capsule, like nothing had changed, you know?”
Earlier, a BTS leak from the set gave a glimpse of Sydney Sweeney in a bridal look and since fans have been theorising the plot. (Was it a wedding? Is it Cassie’s redemption arc or another trainwreck?) Jacob isn’t giving spoilers.
There are several changes in the cast lineup this time reportedly because of the time leap, which will shift the story beyond the high school setting. While most of the key cast members are returning, some familiar faces won’t be back, including Javon Walton, Austin Abrams, Barbie Ferreira, Storm Reid, and Nika King. The tragic passing of Angus Cloud also leaves a void.
Fans have been waiting for confirmation of Zendaya’s return to the show, and according to various industry reports, she will reprise her role. While speaking about his co-actors, Elordi indirectly confirmed the news, saying, “It’s my great pleasure to share the screen with them again.”
While very little is known about the plot so far, with few leaks and fans’ theories here and there, Zendaya, in a 2022 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, said, “I think it’ll be exciting to explore the characters out of high school.” She added, “I want to see what Rue looks like in her sobriety journey, how chaotic that might look. But also with all the characters, in the sense where they’re trying to figure out what to do with their lives when high school is over and what kind of people they want to be.”
