Yatra 2 first look poster: Jiiva plays Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in Mammootty starrer

Actor Jiiva, known for films like Kattradhu Thamizh and 83, will be playing the role of Andhra Pradesh's Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in Yatra 2.

A sequel to the 2019 film Yatra, the biopic of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, was confirmed today with a first look poster that marks the return of Mammootty as YSR and introduces Jiiva as his son and the current Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Both Mammootty and Jiiva took to Twitter to share the poster of the film, directed by Mahi V Raghav.

Along with the poster, the actors also confirmed the release date of the film. “Presenting the first look of #Yatra2. In cinemas worldwide from 8th Feb 2024,” wrote Mammootty. Jiiva, on the other hand, wrote, “In the shadow of a legend, A leader rises!”

The first part of Yatra focused on how YS Rajaeskhara Reddy saved his party from the brink of electoral defeat by taking a statewide pada yatra (hike), which led him to become an iconic figure of the state. The second part, as the poster suggests, will be about the rise of the current CM Jagan Mohan Reddy.

After a while, Jiiva, a commendable performer, has gotten a role with a lot of potential. The actor hasn’t had great films for the past several years, and Yatra 2 might end up becoming the much-needed breakthrough for him. He was last seen in a cameo in Naga Chaitanya’s Custody. Other than Yatra 2, he has Methavi in the pipeline.

Yatra 2, which has gone on floors already, is produced by Shiva Meka under the banners of V Celluloid and Three Autumn Leaves Banner. Santhosh Narayanan is composing the music of the film, while Madhie is handling the cinematography.
