Sujeeth’s new gangster drama They Call Him OG, starring Pawan Kalyan in the titular role, has finally surpassed the domestic Telugu box office collection of his last directorial from five years ago — Saaho, starring Prabhas in the lead role. After the post-Baahubali debacle that Saaho was, Sujeeth has finally gotten some redemption in the form of his new action crime thriller, that too within six days of release.

On Tuesday (day 6), They Call Him OG earned Rs 7.25 crore, a minor drop from its Monday (day 5) earnings of Rs 7.5 crore. That was a massive fall from its Saturday (day 3) and Sunday (day 4) collections of Rs 18.5 crore each, a slight increase from its Friday (day 2) earnings of Rs 18.45 crore. The highest single-day earnings of They Call Him OG remain from its first day when the pan-India film garnered Rs 63.75 crore across all languages, registering one of the biggest openings for not only a Telugu movie, but also an Indian film. A day prior, it also amassed Rs 21 crore from paid previews alone, as per Sacnilk.

The current box office collection of They Call Him OG in India stands at Rs 154.85 crore. Pawan Kalyan’s film has now crossed the Rs 150 crore mark at the domestic box office, a day after breaching the Rs 250 crore mark worldwide. It’s surpassed the Telugu box office collection of Prabhas’ Saaho, which earned Rs 152.68 crore back in 2019.

It’s also surpassed the domestic Telugu box office earnings of another Prabhas debacle, Om Raut’s 2023 mythological epic Adipurush, at Rs 133.28 crore. The lion’s share of the total domestic box office collection of They Call Him OG belongs to the original Telugu version, followed by minor contributions from the dubbed Hindi, Tamil, and Kannada versions respectively.

They Call Him OG has another day to secure maximum numbers as the dominant film in the Indian market. This Thursday, on the occasion of both Dussehra and Gandhi Jayanti, Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1 is all set to release in cinemas. A prequel to his 2022 Kannada mythological epic Kantara, it’ll give a tough fight to Pawan Kalyan’s film not only in the Telugu market, but also in Hindi, Tamil, and its home turf of Kannada.

In the Hindi market, Shashank Khaitan’s romantic comedy Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, is also releasing this Thursday. While Kantara’s Hindi version surpassed the earnings of Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound, starring Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi over the past six days, a mainstream tentpole is sure to challenge its stronghold in the Hindi market.
