The last time Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi starred together in a film, it was for Sekhar Kammula’s 2021 film Love Story. This time around, they are uniting for Chandoo Mondeti’s Thandel, which is yet another intense love story that also appears to be a patriotic saga. Backed by Bunny Vasu and Allu Aravind, Thandel is set to hit the screens on February 7. Ahead of the release, the makers released the trailer to set the tone for the film.

The film promises to be based on the gripping love story between Raju (Naga Chaitanya) and Bujji (Sai Pallavi), which is a story that comes together surmounting various odds. Right from the first frame of the trailer, it is established that this is a love story with many obstacles. Naga Chaitanya plays a fisherman, and the moral compass of his hamlet, and Sai Pallavi plays the perfect foil, who is also his anchor.

Even though the couple has enough distance between them, and the actual sea, there comes a bigger issue when Raju is arrested by the Pakistani forces for trespassing into their borders. From here, we see a Roja redux of sorts as Sai Pallavi braves bureaucratic red tape, and other obstacles to find a way to reunite with the love of her life. Meanwhile, within the Pakistan prison, Raju proves to be quite the patriot, spouting fiery dialogues amidst overwhelming adversity. Incidentally, this film is based on the real-life incident from 2018.

With cinematography by Shamdat and music by Devi Sri Prasad, Thandel has all the trappings of a successful film, and it marks the second collaboration between Naga Chaitanya and Chandoo after Premam. While there has been no official announcement about Naga Chaitanya’s next after Thandel. Sai Pallavi, who was last seen in Amaran, has multiple films in the lineup, including the much-hyped Ramayana adaptation by Nitesh Tiwari, headlined by Ranbir Kapoor and Yash.
