Sandeep Reddy Vanga defends his comment ‘being in love means freedom to hit your partner’: ‘It depends…’

During an interview with Film Companion, Sandeep Reddy Vanga had justified the protagonists hitting each other in the film by calling it ‘their expression of love’. He had said, “When you are deeply in love and deeply connected to a woman (and vice versa), if you don’t have the liberty of slapping each other, then I don’t see anything there. She slapped him without a reason, at least Kabir had a reason to slap her. If you can’t slap, if you can’t touch your woman wherever you want, if you can’t kiss, I don’t see emotion there.”

When host Smita asked him if he still believes that people in love can hit each other, Vanga once again justified his statement.

He said, “It depends. I mean if kids are born and parents are slapping each other, it will be considered domestic violence. From the kids’ perspective, they will feel my parents are always fighting. I was talking about people in college at a particular age. When a boy and a girl are thinking about showing their worst side, there is nothing unconditional about it. If it’s not unconditional then I don’t consider it a great love story. I said it in that context but it was not seen in that light. After one or two such incidents, they’ll understand if I raise my hand, she will also retaliate so they’ll be in control.”

Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s next directorial is Animal starring Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna. He will also be helming Allu Arjun’s film produced by Bhushan Kumar.
