Prabhas’ Salaar was announced in 2020 when it was a different world with the pandemic holding sway. It has taken more than two years for the makers to finally give a glimpse into the world the team has been working on all this while. Director Prashanth Neel of KGF fame, the much sought after director in India, has been tight-lipped about the film, but with the release of the teaser, the cat is finally out of the bag.
While filmmakers have released teasers at midnight, Salaar makers chose a rather peculiar time. The teaser was released at 5.12 am on July 6. The reason given was that the boat of KGF’s protagonist Rocky bhai (Yash) drowned at that exact time, also hinting at a shared universe between the two films.
Watch Salaar teaser here:
Salaar is reminiscent of the KGF world. It has the same heroism we saw in the Kannada blockbuster. The teaser features Tinnu Anand surrounded by many men with machine guns. However, the veteran actor is not perturbed. ‘In simple English’, he says that of course a lion, a tiger, or an elephant is dangerous. The dialogue is intercut to scenes of Prabhas. Tinnu then adds that but those animals are not that dangerous when they are in Jurassic Park because there the apex predator is, well, a dinosaur. The teaser also has a shot of Prithviraj as the menacing villain. Another important reveal from the teaser is that there is a second part to Salaar because the upcoming film is called Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire.
Salaar marks the Telugu debut of Malayalam star Prithviraj. Shruti Haasan, Jagapati Babu, Eshwari Rao, and Sriya Reddy are the other actors in the film. Hombale Films, which bankrolled the two parts of KGF and Kantara, has produced the film. KGF composer Ravi Basrur has again teamed up with Prashanth Neel for the film.
Salaar will release on September 28 in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi.
After Salaar, Prabhas will return to big screens with another big-budget film, Project K. Though the Baahubali series propelled him to superstardom, Prabhas has not been able to churn out a blockbuster hit after SS Rajamouli’s films. Saaho, Radhe Shyam, and Adipurush, made with massive budgets, received lukewarm reviews from critics and audiences. Adipurush has been at the receiving end of much hate and all eyes are on Salaar now.
