Rana Daggubati says he did not talk to Nag Ashwin after visiting Kalki 2898 AD sets: ‘I got jealous…’

Rana Daggubati opened up about the upcoming film Kalki 2898 AD, starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan among others.

Previously known as Project K, Kalki 2898 AD is one of the much-anticipated movies of 2024. Touted to be the most expensive Indian film ever made, Kalki 2898 AD is written and directed by Nag Ashwin and produced by Vyjatanthi Movies. Rana Daggubati, who visited the movie’s sets, recently shared that he felt quite envious of Ashwin for bringing to life a project that Rana had always dreamt of.

In an interview with Film Companion, Rana said, “The first time I got jealous seeing somebody was when I went to the sets of Kalki. Growing up, visual effects for me was Star Wars. That’s a film that I just loved watching. Funnilyy, Nagi (Nag Ashwin) also liked watching that film. And very few people get it. Like science fiction and all of it is not very mainstream.”

Rana Daggubati said that he is very excited about the film Kalki 2898 AD and thought it was a fantastic project, blending mythology and science fiction. The actor continued, “And when I walked into the set, I was like, ‘Sh*t, he’s making this. Like he’s making everything that I dreamt of.’ And I remember I didn’t talk to him that day. I went back home and I called him and said, ‘Dude, I’m really jealous. I don’t know why.’ And he said, ‘Dude, only when you’re jealous I know I’m doing the right things.’ And it’s a story from mythology into science fiction. I’m very excited about what that film will do. It’s got the biggest star cast. It’s got everything.”

The upcoming film stars Amitabh Bachchan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Kamal Hassan in pivotal roles. The movie also stars Disha Patani. The Nag Ashwin directorial will hit theatres on January 12, 2024.

The makers recently revealed the first look of Amitabh from Kalki 2898 AD. Sharing the picture, the makers wrote, “It’s an honor to be part of your journey and witness your greatness. Happy Birthday.”
