Ram Charan’s wife, Upasana Konidela, is the grandddaughter of Apollo Hospitals founder Prathap C Reddy. Upasana said in an interview that she stands to inherit a lot of wealth. She decided to take control of her finances in her late 30s, and claimed that even though people think that she was born into a “rich family”, she doesn’t have access to the kind of wealth she needs to “achieve (her) goals.”

In a chat with Masoom Minawala on her YouTube channel, Upasana said, “Everyone thinks that I was born into this very rich family but, I don’t have access to that kind of wealth that would require me to do the things that I want. So, I took everything into my hands and I said… In my late 30s, I decided that I need to know more about… Otherwise you just trust your family members and feel that everything is going to be safe.”

Upasana said that people just trust their family members when it comes to inheritance and wealth, but she wanted to be in control of her finances. “I said, these are my goals, this is the wealth that I need to create to achieve my goals, this is what I need to do. I actually understood how I need to restructure my company for better outcomes and then also I realised that I need to get more knowledge, to get more confidence with my finances, to educate myself about my finances,” she said.

Upasana said that financial management is an important skill for women to learn. “It could be inheritance but I need to know how I need to manage it. I don’t know what to do with the wealth that I have and the wealth that I am going to be inheriting, I need to use it correctly, and even that is a class.” She then said that “so many women are going to be inheriting so much, once that money comes to you, what are you going to do with it? So for that you need to have that knowledge, and that knowledge will give you the confidence.”

Upasana said that people who equate being driven with being money-minded “don’t know how to manage their money.” She said, “If an opportunity comes your way, it’s godsend, take it. If you don’t make the best of your opportunities, then you are just going to be, sorry to say, leading a loser life.” Upasana has revealed that since they are a “family business and a business family,” they have a “family constitution” so there are “no fights over wealth” within the family.

Upasana is married to actor Ram Charan. They welcomed their daughter Klin Kara Konidela in 2023.
