‘Unprofessional’ Gurucharan Singh asked for his replacement on TMKOC to be fired, says report; actor admits he asked Asit Kumarr Modi for ‘clarity’
As per a recent report, makers of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah have claimed that Gurucharan Singh was always 'unprofessional'.

(Photos: Gurucharan Singh/Instagram, Asit Kumarr Modi/X)Gurucharan Singh, who is best known for playing Roshan Sodhi in the television sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, left the show back in 2020. But recently, there have been reports that Gurucharan was trying to get his job back. After he left the show, the character of Roshan Sodhi was taken over by Balvinder Singh Suri. A recent report claims that Gurucharan asked show’s producer, Asit Kumarr Modi, to fire Suri from the role, but was shut down.
As per a source quoted by News18, “Gurucharan wanted to come back to TMKOC and so he insisted Asit to terminate Suri’s contract. But this is not how it works. Asit had no reason to remove Balwinder suddenly and so he clearly said a no to Gurucharan.” The source added that Gurucharan was always “unprofessional.” They also claimed that contrary to Gurucharan’s statement that he was fired without prior information in 2012, he was actually given four months notice. The actor had claimed that he discovered he’d been fired while watching an epsiode of the show.
In an earlier chat with Siddharth Kannan, when Gurucharan was asked if he met with Asit Kumarr Modi to ask him for work, the actor said that he asked for “clarity” instead. “I asked him that just give me some clarity if I am going to be a part of this (Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah) or no,” he said. Gurucharan said that he needed information on the subject because the audience keeps telling him that they want him back on the show. “They really stuck with me and prayed for me. It is their wish and it is my duty to think about their wishes,” he said. When asked pointedly if Asit refused to cast him again, Gurucharan said, “Asit just gave me good wishes, so you just interpret his response from that.” He also insisted that has now moved on from the past, and wants to focus on the future.
Balvinder Singh Suri has been playing the character for over three years now. “I was also thinking about Ballu (Suri) because he too has been working there for so long. So one actor thinks about the other actor. Back when Ballu started doing this, he called me to ask if I had any problem with him playing Sodhi. I don’t think anyone knows that he asked me. I don’t hold personal grudges against any actor,” he said.
Gurucharan recently resurfaced after going off the radar for a month, causing concern among his peers and his family. Upon his return, he said that he had embarked on a spiritual journey.
