Anupam Mittal pulls an Allu Arjun; drapes a saree, calls himself ‘sabse bada sher’ on Shark Tank India as he makes an emotional offer
Shark Tank India 4: Kunal Bahl was very impressed with Anupam Mittal's sporting attitude, as Anupam happily draped a saree on himself.

A young entrepreneur named Swati pitched her saree brand Aseem by Aseem Shakti on the latest episode of Shark Tank India. The biggest differentiator for Swati’s sarees is that they can be draped in 15 seconds, without the help of a second person, and include built-in pockets. “It’s a game-changer,” Vineeta Singh declared, as Namita Thapar clapped during Swati’s pitch. But Swati truly won the hearts of the ‘sharks’ when she told them her story, and introduced them to the backbone of her business: women from lower income groups that she has provided employment to.
Swati asked for Rs 50 lakh in exchange of 2.5% equity, valuing her business at Rs 20 crore. She said that she has already done business of over Rs 1 crore in half a year. Swati told the ‘sharks’ that she got the idea for her business quite randomly, but made it her mission when she saw a group of women on the street with bandages on their backs. Upon asking them how they sustained the injuries, she learned that the women were willingly participating in human trials for cosmetics companies. “The greater the risk, the more money they would make,” Swati said, adding, “One woman had lost an ear.”
The ‘sharks’ were greatly moved by the story, and applauded as Swati’s team entered the set and flaunted their sarees. But the entire panel was taken aback when they learned that Swati sells her sarees for between Rs 3000 and Rs 6000. Vineeta told her that this is simply too high a price. She suggested that Swati should reduce the prices significantly, but Swati said that she cannot afford to yet, as she pays over Rs 4 lakh in salaries and dividends to the women. She said that her goal is to build a Rs 100 crore business with her gang of women, but she struggled to answer in-depth questions about her business when Peyush Bansal and Kunal Bahl asked her questions. And because of her lack of know-how, they backed out of making her an offer.
Vineeta backed out as well, but applauded her commitment to a noble cause. With four ‘sharks’ out of the picture, Anupam Mittal stepped in. “How does it feel to have four sharks out?” he asked Swati, who replied, “It feels really bad.” Anupam said, “Don’t feel bad, because sabse bada sher baaki hai. It’s clear that you don’t have a great understanding of financials, and that you were parroting details here. But there’s room to grow and learn. What’s also clear is your vision. You want to help people, and you want to build a community. My business has a separate arm called Shaadi.org, whose purpose is to provide employment for women. I will deploy a marketing and finance person for you. You only need to focus on growing your community.”
Anupam offered Swati Rs 50 lakh in exchange for 10% equity, which she immediately accepted. After agreeing to the terms, Swati realised that she had forgotten to present the ‘sharks’ with some of her sarees. She proceeded to do so, and Anupam happily draped one of the sarees on himself, much to Namita’s amusement. But Kunal was impressed. “You’re always a good sport,” he told Anupam.
