Amit Jain, co-founder and CEO of CarDekho, may have joined the reality show Shark Tank India only in season two, but he soon became a fan-favourite for his detail-oriented approach and his mantra of focusing on people over businesses. He joined the first season’s roster of sharks — Namita Thapar, Aman Gupta, Peyush Bansal, Anupam Mittal and Vineeta Singh — and managed to find his fanbase.
Amit, who replaced Ashneer Grover on the show, participated in a Reddit AMA (ask me anything) session recently, where he spoke about his fellow sharks and also shared advice for aspiring entrepreneurs. When asked who are his favourite sharks on the show, he replied, “Main apna favourite hoon!” adding, “On a serious note, favourites are: Peyush, Ritesh (Agarwal) and Azhar (Iqubal). Least favourite: Itna toh apko pata lag gaya hoga.”
In a recent episode, aired earlier this month, Aman and Amit were seen getting into heated arguments and making snarky comments, which left the audience curious about whether the two don’t get along with each other. Amit was asked if he still has “any beef with Aman” as there was “some noticeable tension” between them on the show. The entrepreneur quipped, “No beef, I am a vegetarian as everybody knows!” Following their disagreement during a pitch, Aman had told Amit, “Aapka toh bahut naam kharab hai market mein (You don’t have a good reputation in the market),” to which the latter replied, “Mera toh bahut hi acha hai, pucho founders se (I have a good reputation, ask the founders).”
When a Reddit user asked if the ‘sharks’ quarrel when they are not filming the show, Amit gave a witty reply, “The rules of nature say that sharks have a tendency to bite! If you know, you know! (sic)” He also revealed that he would have loved to invest in Peyush’s Lenskart when the company was newly founded.
On being asked if he feels left out on the show, given that he joined the group late, he said, “When I’m surrounded by unique ideas and budding entrepreneurs from every corner of the country?”
Amit also spoke about AI being helpful in business and shared the mantra for a successful business venture. “Education is important, so is your business sense!” he added. Sharing the top three qualities that he looks for in an entrepreneur which impresses him during a pitch, he revealed, “3Ps and 3Hs coupled with customer obsession and the zeal to continuously innovate to make your product 10X better along with the hunger to solve the problems of your customers! 3Ps: Passion, Persistence and Perseverance 3Hs: Honesty, Humility, and Hardwork. (sic)”
