(Photo: YouTube/TRS)The Great Indian Kapil Show has been going strong for over a decade and has survived several controversies and branding changes. One of the oldest members of the band is actor and comedian Kiku Sharda, who has been involved with the show since almost the start. During a recent interview, Sharda talked about Kapil Sharma, his experience of working with him, and shared some weird stories from the set.
The 49-year-old actor appeared on Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast and talked about his career, personal life and his greatest hits. While discussing the latter, he was asked about the most out-of-the-box interaction he has with a guest of the show. Without skipping a beat, Kiku took the name of actor Moushumi Chatterjee. He said that Chatterjee didn’t seem bothered by the script and flow of the show and just wanted to talk and have fun with everyone, even if it took the show off its rails.

He said, “Sometimes the guests completely surprise us. We did this one episode with Moushumi Chatterjee. Now Moushumi ji is in her own element. She was chatting with Kapil, like they were talking to each other sitting on the couch at her home. She wasn’t considering it a ‘show’ per se. She would suddenly go, ‘Aur bata’ (What’s going on?) or ‘Kaisa Hai’ (How are you?). Kapil kept telling her that now we will have to get back to the show.”
Kiku added that things got even more confusing when Moushumi had more people to interact with and said, “She was asking Kapil questions about the cue cards, and then she started talking to me very casually and asking me how I was. I told her that I am fine, but I am in character, so I can’t talk to you being myself. She did the same thing with Krushna and told him, ‘Tu kaisa baat kar raha hai’ (How are you talking?), this is not how your character talks. So she was very talkative, and she wouldn’t even wait for the punchline of the joke. But it ended up being a hilarious episode.”
The actor said that the guests on the show have now grown to be very comfortable with the format. He also mentioned that in the beginning people were more conscious about what would happen, but now things have taken a turn for the better. “With time things have changed with the guests at the show. Now people know that all of us will do our thing, so they come to the show and relax. Sometimes, we have people over who try to one-up our jokes. Then the conversation gets slightly awkward. But now things have changed, and people are very comfortable with us and the jokes we make,” said Kiku.
