‘I am not half as brutal as I appear on Shark Tank,’ says Radhika Gupta
In a conversation with Kareena Kapoor on her Mirchi Plus show What Women Want, Radhika Gupta shared why she appears to be tough on Shark Tank India.

Radhika Gupta, the CEO of Edelweiss Mutual Funds, made her reality show debut with Shark Tank India Season 3. On the show, Radhika was known for her bluntness. However, according to her, she is not as ruthless as she appears on the show. In a conversation with Kareena Kapoor on her Mirchi Plus show What Women Want, Radhika shared why she appears to be tough on Shark Tank India.
Sharing her journey, Radhika said, “I am not half as brutal as I appear on Shark Tank. My profession is finance and it is a male dominated sector. But at the core, I am deeply emotional. I come from an ordinary middle class family and my family never had a corporate background. My mom was a teacher and dad was in the government. I was studious but didn’t know what to do in life.”
She added, “I was lucky to crack a finance gig. I struggled with a lot of failure on campus. I got rejected by multiple companies before getting a job even though I was a very good student. It happened because I was extremely low on confidence. I was extremely insecure about the way I look and then I finally managed to get a job, and found my way into the world of finance.”
Unlike other entrepreneurs, Radhika Gupta shares she was never passionate about finance, but it all just happened to her by itself. “My career was more like an arranged marriage. I didn’t know what to do with my life. I found a career, and then I learnt to fall in love with it.”
In the male dominated finance sector, Radhika had to go through her own challenges. For her, the challenges were doubled because she was not only a woman but also quite young to be a CEO. She shared, “It is actually twin challenges. It has both a women angle to it and back then I was 33. People trust people with grey hair when they have to hand over their money to them, I struggled with that. I started to wear a saree in an attempt to look older so that people will take me seriously.”
However, these were only Radhika Gupta’s initial challenges. Over time, her talent spoke for her and she was trusted by her clients. “But over time, when people see your work, they throw gender and age out of the window, but it has taken me some time. There are still moments of insecurity. But I am better now.”
Shark Tank India Season 4 will air from January 6 on Sony Entertainment Television. It will also stream on SonyLIV.
