Hina Khan reveals she was not confident about playing Komolika: ‘I didn’t want people to unnecessarily hate me’

Later when she stepped away from under the flawless Akshara’s shadow to being ‘SherKhan’ and then stepping into Komolika’s shoes, Hina Khan revealed it was not a conscious decision. She said, “Playing Komolika was not a conscious choice. Ekta Kapoor was the one who pumped me up and pushed me to do it. I was not at all confident to play an antagonist, that too Komolika. The iconic Urvashi Dholakia killed it, so in my head, it was just impossible to play the character any better. I thought I would fail with the character, so I didn’t want to get into it because I had already played such a big character on Indian television. I didn’t want people to unnecessarily hate me for the character. But Ekta was very confident; she said you are my Komolika and that she could not have thought of anybody else playing the character.”

Well, Hina Khan played Komolika, and the rest was history.

In the same conversation, Hina Khan also spoke about facing scrutiny on social media and how she patiently deals with it now. “It doesn’t matter who says what, even if people say anything negative. I see that good energy around me, and I have become very patient. When I deal with a situation now, I analyze it in every way. During my time, social media was not strong. I was not on social media for a very long time, and when I came on it, initially, it bothered me because you are young, but now I don’t care.”
