EXCLUSIVE | TMKOC creator Asit Kumar Modi reacts to reports of Dayaben’s comeback: ‘We can only pray that Disha Vakani returns’

Recently, rumours around Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah makers finalising a replacement for actor Disha Vakani’s character Dayaben had made headlines. While News18 reported that Disha’s replacement was locked and mock shoots had begun, another portal reported that actor Kajal Pisal would be the new Dayaben. However, the actor denied the reports and shared that she will not be playing the iconic role. Amid swirling rumours, SCREEN spoke to the show’s producer, Asit Kumar Modi, who revealed that he will finalise Daya Bhabhi’s replacement soon.

Reacting to reports of Dayaben’s return, Asit Modi exclusively told us, “People have been eagerly waiting for Daya Bhabhi, and I will finalise her soon. People say that without Dayaben, they don’t enjoy the show as much, and I agree. We, as a team, are trying to fill Daya Bhabhi’s absence as much as we can. But she will return soon.”

When asked if there’s the slightest possibility for Disha Vakani’s return, he said, “We can only pray that Disha Vakani returns as the character. She is like my sister, and she has some family duties to fulfill, which is why it might be difficult for her to return. We miss her even today. She was very sincere and caring towards her co-stars and the team. We hope to find someone just like that.”

On the other hand, Kajal Pisal, who was rumoured to be Disha’s replacement, denied the reports during a conversation with Times Now. Kajal told the publication that she had auditioned for the role in 2022, and that these old pictures were the ones going viral now. She is currently working on the show Jhanak.

While Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has been running successfully for 17 years, Disha Vakani exited the show five years back. She had taken maternity leave, and after that, the actor never returned.
