Hollywood actor Christian Slater says the popularity of his TV series “Mr Robot” is not surprising as the show mirrors the reality of the society.

The American drama–thriller is about a mysterious anarchist (Slater) who recruits a young computer programmer, played by Rami Malek, who is too hesitant to make friends and connects to people by hacking them.

The “Heathers” star said he is not surprised by the popularity of the show.

“Not really… I think it’s a show that’s dealing with worldwide themes and issues. Like I said, as we were filming, there were things that were happening in the world that were mirroring what we were doing on the day on the set,” Slater said in a statement.

He said there were instances when newspapers started calling the show’s creator Sam Esmail for comments.

“You know, to the point where Sam would be getting calls from newspapers asking for comments. And Sam was like, ‘Look, I’m just creating a (TV) show here. I don’t genuinely have a crystal ball’,” the 46-year-old actor said.

The second season of “Mr. Robot” is all set to premiere on Colors Infinity in India, along with the US, on July 14. The series, which won the Golden Globe awards last year for best TV show, has also initiated a coordinated global campaign.
