Chinmayi Sripaada condemns Kapil Sharma for making fun of Atlee’s appearance: ‘Will they never stop these crass, racist jibes?’

Comedian-turned-actor Kapil Sharma recently got embroiled in a scandal after a clip from his latest episode from The Great Indian Kapil Show went viral. The season finale that featured Baby John cast Atlee, Varun Dhawan, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Keerthy Suresh involved a scene where Kapil made fun of Atlee’s appearance. While the Baby John director Atlee schooled Kapil for it, social media users pointed out that both Atlee and Varun looked offended by the statement made by Kapil Sharma. Now, singer Chinmayi Sripaada has also come in support of Atlee and slammed Kapil for his ‘crass and racist jibe’.

Chinmayi reshared a video where Kapil subtly insulted Atlee and wrote on X, “Will they never stop these crass and racist jibes at his skin color in the name of ‘comedy’? Someone with the amount of influence and clout like Kapil Sharma saying something like this is disappointing and unfortunately, not surprising.” Lots of users on social media also expressed disappointment over Kapil’s remark, others defended it saying it was all done in good spirits. One of the users wrote, “They would have choreographed it. That’s how these shows work. It was a promotional event for a movie that Atlee has produced. Surely, they won’t insult the one sponsoring the show!” Another commented, “His comedy is all about ridiculing, body shaming, racist, misogynistic, aukat-worshipping, and full of juvenile potty jokes. No wonder he is making millions.”

Many also wrote that Kapil should issue a public apology to Atlee for the same. In the recently released episode, Kapil is seen asking Atlee, “You are so young and have become such a big producer-director, but has there been an instance where you have gone to meet a star and they couldn’t believe that you are Atlee.” Responding to this, Atlee said, “In a way, I understood your question, I am very thankful to AR Murugadoss sir, he produced my first film. He asked for the script and didn’t see how I was looking, or whether I was capable or not, he loved my narration. The world should see that and not judge by appearance, you should see a person’s heart.”

The season finale for The Great Indian Kapil Show streamed on Netflix on 14th December.
