Bigg Boss 19 makers sued for Rs 2 crore over unauthorized use of music: Report
According to a report, the Bollywood songs 'Chikni Chameli' and 'Dhat Teri Ki' were used as wake-up tracks for contestants in a few episodes without proper authorization.

The makers of Bigg Boss 19 have been served a legal notice demanding damages of Rs 2 crore along with additional license fees. According to a report in Mid-Day, Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) issued the notice over the unauthorized use of two popular Bollywood songs on the Salman Khan-hosted reality show.
As per the report, showrunners Endemol Shine India and Banijay have been accused of using the songs – “Chikni Chameli” from Agneepath and “Dhat Teri Ki Main” from Gori Teri Pyaar Main in the show’s 11th episode. The legal notice states that the makers used the songs without securing the mandatory license to use them. The notice dated September 19 has been sent to Deepak Dhar.

Both songs are licensed to Sony Music India, with their public rights administered by PPL. According to the report, using them without authorization from the organization amounts to willful infringement. In addition to seeking financial damages and license fees, PPL has also issued the Bigg Boss 19 makers a cease-and-desist notice, prohibiting the use of its sound recordings without approval.
Team SCREEN reached out to Banijay Asia, Endemol and JioHotstar; however, none of the parties offered an official comment. A source close to the production house revealed that Banijay and Endemol have no involvement in the choice of songs played, as a dedicated promo team at JioHotstar handles those details.
