Gaurav Khanna says he doesn’t know to cook Indian food; netizens question his Celebrity MasterChef win, call him ‘Farzi Bawarchi’
Gaurav Khanna’s refusal to handle kitchen duties on Bigg Boss 19 has sparked debate online, with many questioning his MasterChef India win.

Bigg Boss 19 contestant Gaurav Khanna has faced severe backlash after refusing to take up cooking duties in the house. Last week, when Kunickaa Sadanand became the captain, she asked Gaurav to handle the kitchen responsibilities. However, the Anupamaa actor declined, firmly stating, “Ma’am, I won’t make it. I don’t know how to cook Indian food. The housemates will have to stay hungry all day.” Gaurav also highlighted that his contract doesn’t require him to cook as part of his participation on the show.
In the Bigg Boss 19 live feed, Gaurav was seen telling co-contestant Mridul Tiwari, “Kaam toh main accha karta hu, bas issi baat ka guroor hai. Khaana banane ko mera mann nahi hai aur mujhe aata bhi nahi Indian khaana banana. Maine voh show (Celebrity MasterChef), iss show ke liye thodi kiya hai. Ab tumhe kahen ki actor ho, acting karo sara din. Voh logon ne dekhliya mujhe cooking kitna aata hai. Iss show main unko meri personality dekhni hai (I work very well and that’s why I have this attitude. As for cooking, I don’t want to do it, and I don’t even know how to cook Indian food. I didn’t do Celebrity MasterChef for this show. If people say you are an actor, you just act, so that cannot happen. People saw how much I know about cooking, here, they need to see my personality).”
Gaurav Khanna faces backlash
After the video of the conversation surfaced online, many on the internet started questioning Gaurav Khanna’s Celebrity MasterChef win and said that the cooking reality show is scripted. A fan wrote on Reddit, “Arey yaar MasterChef scripted tha matlab. Gaurav ko Darr hai ki log uska khana kha ke figure out kar lenge ki usse acha khana bnana nahi aata (That means MasterChef is scripted, and Gaurav is scared that after eating his food, people will figure out that he doesn’t cook well).” Another user wrote, “Being the current celebrity MasterChef title holder, he is sceptical of putting himself up for judgment by the HMs. He doesn’t want anyone to question his win by his present cooking skills.”
Gaurav Khanna’s team does damage control
Following the criticism, Gaurav Khanna’s team issued a statement on X. It read, “Let’s be clear, MasterChef and Bigg Boss cooking aren’t the same. At MasterChef, #GauravKhanna worked with guidance, preparing one plated dish with finesse. In #BiggBoss, it’s about cooking for people, daily meals, and no supervision. Before Celebrity MasterChef, #GauravKhanna had never cooked at all. The show was about learning, adapting, and performing under immense pressure. Winning that title was about determination, not prior skill. Trolling him and judging him today based on one statement about Indian food is unfair.”
Sadly, the statement also backfired with many questioning Gaurav’s cooking skills. One user penned a long note on X, stating, “Sorry, but the defense of Gaurav Khanna’s ‘I don’t know how to cook’ claim holds no water. Winning #CelebrityMasterChef India 2025 means he mastered dishes like jackfruit curry and pavlova under Vikas Khanna’s watchful eye; skills that should translate to basic dal-roti for housemates. MasterChef’s training wasn’t just about ‘one plated dish with finesse’; it demanded versatility, including Indian recipes, across weeks of high-pressure challenges. If Gaurav learned enough to outshine finalists like Tejasswi Prakash, claiming ignorance now feels like a strategic dodge to skirt kitchen duties & focus on strategizing his game in the BB house. Calling it unfair trolling ignores the contradiction: a MasterChef champ should handle a Bigg Boss kitchen, supervised or not! Determination got him the trophy, but this excuse undermines his credibility!”
Let’s be clear MasterChef and Bigg Boss cooking aren’t the same. At MasterChef, #GauravKhanna worked with guidance, preparing one plated dish with finesse. In #BiggBoss, it’s about cooking for people, daily meals, and no supervision.
Before Celebrity MasterChef, #GauravKhanna…

Another user on X wrote, “Bro!! Have some shame, the show was about learning, usne show jeeta matlab usne sab se acha sekha waha at the end khana bana he dekha rahe the na BB mai Basic normal khana pakana hota hai much harder than M. Chef?” A third user commented, “So, without knowing basic food, you were given the CMC (Celebrity MasterChef) title because Tejasswi &Rajiv cooked these basic things. Definitely, those two were not the same, but you said you can’t cook Indian food, & that’s questionable. If u know how BB works, then this should be known, right?”
One of the users also went on to say, “Now this sounds so bad… Never defend him ever, because without cooking ever, he went to CMC and plated beautiful dishes as his own creations?? Rajiv and Teju, who are in CMC, have cooked the meals in the BB house…without knowing basic cooking, he won CMC? This isn’t adding up!!”
Rajiv Adatia, Gaurav Khanna’s co-contestant from Celebrity MasterChef, has also come out in support of the actor. He shared a video on his Instagram stories where he said, “Winning Celebrity MasterChef and cooking for 20-25 people on Bigg Boss are two different things. I have done both the shows, and I have cooked at both the places. I was the main cook in Bigg Boss along with Tejasswi and Nishant, so it’s different. When Gaurav was on MasterChef, he had not entered a kitchen before that. He used to make lengthy notes when we were getting trained for two weeks before the show. He knew nothing and would spend 8-9 hours in the grooming kitchen.”
Rajiv backed Gaurav and said that just because he won a cooking show, it does not mean he can cook in any kitchen.
