Anupamaa: Gaurav Khanna aka Anuj Kapadia quits show after Sudhanshu Pandey, addresses rumours of rift with Rupali Ganguly

After Sudhanshu Pandey and Madalsa Sharma, Gaurav Khanna -- who played Anuj Kapadia on Anupamaa -- has quit the show.

Producer Rajan Shahi’s show Anupamaa has been facing turbulence for quite some time now. The show is seeing a drop in its TRPs and many actors quitting the show in quick succession has put Anupamaa under the scanner. Now after Sudhanshu Pandey and Madalsa Sharma, actor Gaurav Khanna has also announced his exit from the show. Gaurav, who played Anuj Kapadia opposite Rupali Ganguly, said that he would be happy to return to Anupamaa at a future date, but as of now Anuj’s chapter on the show is closed.

Talking to ETimes, Gaurav said that people have been constantly asking him about his return to Anupamaa. He said that while producer Rajan Shahi had earlier discussed the possibility of a grand re-entry for his character, it is yet to materialize after two months. However, as the storyline had to progress, waiting doesn’t make sense and he has decided to explore new projects. “So, for now, Anuj’s chapter is closed, but I see it as a comma, not a full stop. If the story demands and my schedule allows, I’d be happy to return,” he said.

Gaurav also added, “Anuj was originally planned as a three-month cameo, but it became a defining part of my career, lasting over three years. That kind of love is rare, and I can’t thank my fans for it.”

Anupamaa recently took a 15-years leap, which led to many characters getting dropped from the storyline. Due to this leap, Gaurav also had to be away from the sets for two months. However, change in the storyline is not the only reason behind Gaurav Khanna quitting the show. There are reports of possible issues between him and Rupali Ganguly. Commenting on these reports, Gaurav said, “I don’t engage in retaliatory interviews or respond to rumours. What matters is the work we’ve created together. I’ve always focused on my craft, and what happens beyond the ‘action’ and ‘cut’ is secondary.”

Earlier, Sudhanshu Pandey, Paras Kalnawat, and Nidhi Shah from Anupamaa had pointed out that Rupali was quite insecure about her role on the show. The lead actress was also in the news of late when her stepdaughter Esha Verma made serious accusations against her. A crew member also lost his life after getting electrocuted on the sets of the show.

As for Gaurav, after his exit from the show, he is yet to make an official announcement and also share what is his next project with his fans.
