The shoot of Star Plus show Anupamaa witnessed a tragedy as one of the crew members, Vineet Kumar Mandal, passed away on November 14 after getting electrocuted on set. The 32-year-old member, who worked as a camera attendant, was on duty when the incident occurred.

Talking to SCREEN, the President of All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA), Suresh Gupta, criticised the producers and the channel for not taking enough safety precautions on set. Suresh shared, “Anupamaa is being shot for a few years now. However, on November 14, there was an incident on the set where one of our workers, Vineet Kumar Mandal, 32 years old, who worked as a camera attendant passed away after getting electrocuted during the shoot.”

Suresh accused the producer and channel of trying to suppress the incident and claimed, “The channel, producer, and production house have been trying to suppress the matter. Wrong news was spread, but such incidents keep happening every time on sets and the workers die whether through an electric shock or due to a set fire. This happens because the production houses and channels don’t provide enough safety precautions to save a few pennies.”

He added, “Wires are unexposed which becomes fatal, but these people see the crew workers as pests. As the president of the All India Cine Workers Association, I request the government authorities to register an FIR against the makers of Anupamaa and the officials at Film City for murder. All the authorities at Film City also know about the negligence on sets, but they never take action. The deceased person’s family should be given Rs 1 crore as compensation and an investigation should be carried out.”

He added that the incident happened at 9:30 pm but the crew went on to shoot till midnight.”At 9:30 PM, a worker lost his life due to electrocution on the set. Despite this tragic incident, the shooting was not halted and continued relentlessly until midnight at Film City. Shockingly, the shooting resumed the very next day, showing a blatant disregard for the loss of life,” he said.

The channel and the production house are yet to share an official statement about the incident.
