Amitabh Bachchan says he’s Waheeda Rehman’s biggest fan, praises her simplicity and grace on Kaun Banega Crorepati

This is not the first time that Amitabh Bachchan has called Waheeda Rehman his favourite. In 2015 too, Big B took to his blog to share, “The lovely Waheeda Rehman, my favourite from the time I started seeing cinema… And her childlike mischievous banter, resonant from the time I met her 45 years ago…And then through films that I did with her… ‘Reshma Shera’, ‘Kabhi Kabhie’ and ‘Adalat’ and ‘Trishul’ and so many other…”

Big B shared this note after he got to meet the veteran star at a book launch event. He also shared pictures with her, and wrote, “Still with Waheeda ji and sharing a little personal moment, which harps on the presence of some guests and their… well… Never mind…! hahaha”

Amitabh Bachchan and Waheeda Rehman have played husband and wife on-screen in Kabhi Kabhie. The duo has also played mother-son in Trishul, but way before all these films, the two shared screen space in the 1971 film Reshma aur Shera. While filming, there was a scene in which Waheeda was supposed to slap Amitabh but his mother, Teji Bachchan, was present on set that day and requested her to not slap Amitabh too hard.

Waheeda recalled this incident in a 2002 interview with Filmfare, as she shared, “There was a scene in the movie where I was supposed to slap Amitabh. His mother, Teji Bachchan, was on the sets and told me not to slap him too hard.”
