Vijay’s Leo breaks box office record even before release, makers say film breaks all time record in UK
The pre-booking for Vijay's Leo has begun in the UK, and the distributor claims the film has broken record for an Indian film.

Though Lokesh Kanagaraj has said he doesn’t concern himself with the box office collections of his directorial ventures (until and unless he has stakes in the profits), Vijay’s fans do. It is important for the ardent followers that Leo breaks the box office records of the recent Tamil hit, Rajinikanth’s Jailer. To all such fans, Ahimsa Entertainment, which is distributing the Vijay-starrer in the UK, has good news. According to the distributor, a record number of tickets for the first day have been sold in the UK.
In a tweet, Ahimsa Entertainment claimed, “We’ve just rewritten the history books! #LEO’s Day 1 UK box office now stands as the ALL TIME RECORD for any Indian film. A roaring applause for Thalapathy Vijay! (sic).”

Earlier, the highest Day 1 collection record was held by Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan (£319K). Leo has now dethroned it and become the first Indian film to collect more than £320K (Rs 3.2 crore approx), according to a report published by The Times of India. It is expected to do more business ahead of its release on October 19. Leo is also the first Indian film to have pre-booking 40 days ahead of its release in the UK, which has enabled the record.
Back home, the booking for the film is yet to open. The filmmakers recently sought permission from the Tamil Nadu government to have a special show for the first six days. However, it is unclear whether or not the film will have early morning shows in the state. Film trade analysts predict that the film will break several box office records once the booking begins.
