Thangalaan to release on August 15, producer Dhananjeyan confirms long-awaited date

Thangalaan is a period drama set in the historical backdrop of Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) in Karnataka. The film, which was completed last year, was initially scheduled for a January 2024 release but faced multiple postponements. However, with the new release date set for August 15, the anticipation is higher than ever.

Music director GV Prakash Kumar also shared an update about Thangalaan on Monday. He took to his Instagram Stories and wrote, “#thangalaan bgscore completed… have given my best…what a film… Looking forward to…And what a terrific trailer is on ur way soon ur gonna be mind blown. Indian cinema get ready for #thangalaan @chiyaan @beemji @StudioGreen2.” This update has further fueled excitement among fans and cinephiles.

Trade analysts had been speculating the August 15 release date after Allu Arjun’s Pushpa: The Rule got postponed to December. The official announcement is expected to be made soon by the film’s lead, Vikram. Reports also suggest that the trailer for Thangalaan will be released in July.

Thangalaan boasts a stellar cast, including Malavika Mohanan, Pasupathy, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Daniel Caltagirone, and Harikrishnan Anbudurai. The film is jointly produced by Studio Green and Neelam Productions, with a talented crew also featuring writers Tamil Prabha and Azhagiral Periyavan, editor RK Selva, and cinematographer A Kishore Kumar.
