Selvaraghavan has carved a new path for himself as an actor, impressing audiences with his portrayals of antagonists in recent Tamil films. After his chilling performance as a cold-blooded financier in Shane Nigam’s sports drama Balti, he is now set to play a brooding serial killer in Vishnu Vishal’s upcoming crime thriller Aaryan. Recently, Selvaraghavan sat down with Baradwaj Rangan to discuss Aaryan, the sequels of his directorals currently in the works, and why he initially considered 7G Rainbow Colony a closed chapter.
When asked about the fanfare surrounding the possible sequels of his films, Selvaraghavan said, “You feel happy hearing that. But there is the thing, I can’t suddenly decide to make a sequel to my films. I can’t make that call alone. I should wait for a lot of people to come together to make that happen.”
The director also spoke candidly about his initial hesitation to make a sequel to his cult classic teenage romance 7G Rainbow Colony, explaining that he had always considered the story complete by the end of the first film. “When my original producer, Rathnam sir, asked me about the possibility of doing a sequel to 7G Rainbow Colony, it made me think a lot at first. I thought that the story had ended with the first film, no? How do I come up with a second part to that story? I really liked that challenge. So I told him, ‘Sure, we can do it.’ The character of Kadhir from the movie is still alive after the death of Anitha. I thought, what if Kadhir from the first film is still thinking about that girl only and living in love? It’s not possible in real life. But that’s what we are trying to say with the sequel.”
Selvaraghavan also provided an update on the status of his upcoming directorial ventures: “60% shoot of my 7/G Rainbow Colony sequel and my other directorial, Mental Manadhil, starring G V Prakash Kumar, has been completed.”
