Rajinikanth shares wishes for Vijay’s Leo: ‘I pray the film should become a huge success’
Superstar Rajinikanth, who is shooting for Thalaivar 170, was asked about Vijay's Leo. He responded with his best wishes for the team.

There is a battle of sorts going on in the Tamil film industry—at least between the fans of Rajinikanth and Vijay—about who is the top hero currently between the two. Vijay has emerged as the favourite of youngsters with consecutive hits. His films do huge business in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Telugu states. However, Rajinikanth, after a period of lull, bounced back with a blockbuster hit, Jailer. With the return of the superstar to the fold, things have gotten quite competitive in Kollywood—the biggest question currently is whether or not Leo will break the box office records set by Jailer. Meanwhile, Rajinikanth, always a good sport, has wished the best for Vijay’s Leo.
The superstar is currently in Thoothukudi for the shoot of his upcoming film with director TJ Gnanavel, tentatively titled Thalaviar 170. He was asked about his thoughts on Vijay’s upcoming film Leo, and Rajinikanth said, “I wish the film a huge success.” He added, “I pray to God the film should become a huge success.”
Talking about shooting in Thoothukudi, one of the popular southern districts of the state, Rajinikanth said, “I am happy to be here. I was here back in 1977 for Bhuvana Oru Kelvikuri. It’s been 46 years. The people here are lovely. I regret I couldn’t take selfies with everyone.”
Rajinikanth has been shooting for Thalaivar 170 in parts of Kerala and the southern part of Tamil Nadu for the past two weeks. Produced by Lyca, the film has one of the biggest casts with Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan, Malayalam star Fahadh Faasil, and Telugu star Rana Daggubati acting in it. Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music for the film, and according to the superstar, the film will be an entertainer with a good social message.
Meanwhile, Leo is gearing up for release on October 19 across the world. The film has already done a record business in the UK for a Tamil film by collecting about Rs 3.2 crores from advance ticket booking. Similarly, in Kerala and Karnataka, the opening day tickets for the film have been sold out despite exorbitant prices. A few reports claim some theatres in Karnataka sold tickets for huge prices like Rs 1500 and Rs 2000.
The first-day-first-show ticket sale is yet to be opened in Tamil Nadu as the makers are currently in the process of seeking permission from the High Court to let the film have early morning shows in the state. Tamil Nadu passed a law banning early morning shows owing to the death of a fan during Varisu and Thunivu’s release in January 2023.
