Pugazh and Kuraishi’s skit mocking Kamal Haasan land them in trouble, comedians issue apology

Pugazh and Kuraishi made a skit in Dubai mocking Kamal Haasan. It has received severe backlash from fans of the star.

Comedians Pugazh and Kuraishi, who shot to fame through the reality game show Cooku with Comali on Vijay TV, are facing backlash from fans of Kamal Haasan for their comedy skit which allegedly was made in a bad taste. The comedians have apologised to fans for their video claiming that it was an honest mistake and never intended to hurt anyone.

A few months ago, Pugazh and Kuraishi performed at a cultural event in Dubai. During their performance, Kuraishi mimicked Haasan and answered questions posed by Pugazh. Every answer carried the word ‘Maya’, which was a dig at the Tamil superstar. During Bigg Boss Tamil Season 7, Haasan faced criticism for siding with one of the contestants, Maya Krishnan. Maya had acted with Haasan in the film Vikram, and it was alleged that was the reason behind the actor’s bias.

The skit implies that Kamal Haasan has a special liking for Maya. When Pugazh asks, “What’s his favourite district,” Kuraishi says, “Mayavaram.” When asked about the actor’s favourite film, he replies, “Mayabazaar.” The video is being called out as vulgar by many fans.

Now, Pugazh and Kuraishi took to social media to apologize for their behaviour. Pugazh said, “I never thought it would enrage people this much. I am a big fan of Kamal Haasan Sir. I have shared a photo of him sitting in front of me and captioned it, ‘Tamil cinema is sitting before me.’ I am such a big fan. So, I didn’t do it to hurt anyone. I made a mistake and I express my apology.” In a separate video, Kuraishi also apologised for the skit and said that they made it because they were asked to do a skit on a trending topic then.

Even after the apology, both the comedians are still at the receiving end of Kamal Haasan fans’ fury. They are being called out on social media for mocking a star of such stature in a demeaning manner.

Meanwhile, Bigg Boss Tamil Season 7 concluded on Sunday with VJ Archana winning the edition.
