Priyanka Chopra corrects interviewer who calls RRR a Bollywood film, says it’s a ‘Tamil film’. Fans react to her gaffe

Priyanka Chopra Jonas has been a great supporter of SS Rajamouli’s RRR ever since the film was submitted at the Oscars. She even attended the screening of the film in the US and gave a shout-out to the film. Later, sharing a picture with SS Rajamouli and MM Keeravani, she wrote on social media, “Least I can do to contribute to this incredible Indian film’s journey. Good luck and congratulations @RRRMovie.” Priyanka even hosted Ram Charan and his wife Upasana at her residence in Los Angeles, when the couple was in the country ahead of the Oscars. In fact, Priyanka has acted alongside Ram Charan in his Bollywood debut Zanjeer. All this prelude is to give a picture of how much the actress is in the know about RRR, and that is why it is confusing to refer to the Telugu film as a ‘Tamil film’ in a recent interview with the podcast channel Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard.

What’s more ironic about her statement is that she was actually correcting the interviewer who called RRR a Bollywood movie. So, when Dax Shepard compared Bollywood to be like the 50s of Hollywood when a few stars and big studios controlled everything, Priyanka agreed and said, “I don’t think you are far from it. I think that was what it was… big studios, five actors… big movies will be made by them; but the game is changed so much now. First of all, it’s streaming. It has given access to so many people who are making content.”

She added, “Bollywood has evolved in such an incredible way. You have the mainstream big action and the love story and the dancing…” When Dax interrupted her saying, “RRR…”, Priyanka quickly corrected him saying, “That’s a Tamil movie by the way.” And it was not the only time she called it a Tamil movie. She went on, “It’s like big, mega, blockbuster Tamil which does all of those… it’s like our Avengers.”

It is not like Priyanka Chopra doesn’t know the difference between the different industries down South given that her first film as an actor was in Tamil, titled Tamizhan, starring Vijay in the lead role. So, one has to give the benefit of doubt to PC and hopefully it was just a slip on her part.
