Ponniyin Selvan 2 box office collection Day 3: Mani Ratnam’s epic soars, earns over Rs 80 crore

Apart from the commercial love, PS-2 has also seemingly won over critics as indianexpress.com’s Kirubhakar Purushothaman wrote in a section of his review, “After watching Ponniyin Selvan 2, one can say that the first part was Mani’s way of introducing and establishing the epic, where he didn’t shy away from using screen time for lavish song sequences. In the second part, he is bolder and deviates majorly from the books. Here, Mani Ratnam, the filmmaker, is more faithful to his craft than to the written material. This makes Ponniyin Selvan 2 better cinema, and superior to its first part.”

Ponniyin Selvan 2 is the sequel to Ponniyin Selvan, which released last year, becoming one of the highest grossing Tamil features of 2022. The first part was also helmed by Mani Ratnam, who has adapted the scripts from Kalki Krishnamurthy’s novel of the same name. Ponniyin Selvan 2 will conclude the franchise, and stars actors such as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Trisha Krishnan, Karthi, Prakash Raj, Sobhita Dhulipala, Vikram among others.
