Meiyazhagan teaser: A heartwarming peek into Karthi and Arvind Swamy’s quirky bromance

Meiyazhagan Teaser is out

Karthi’s luck with sophomore directors in Tamil should be a case study of sorts. After working in the second Tamil films of directors Pa Ranjith (Madras), H Vinoth (Theeran: Adhigaaram Ondru), M Muthaiah (Komban), Bakkiyaraj Kannan (Sulthan) and Lokesh Kanagaraj (Kaithi), Karthi’s next Meiyazhagan marks 96 director Prem Kumar’s second Tamil film. The makers recently released a heartwarming teaser of the movie that stars Arvind Swamy alongside Karthi. Netizens have been raving about the quality of the teaser, and how it is a welcome move away from the kind of promotional materials bombarding their lives and timelines.

Unlike the flashy teaser cuts that feature hero elevation, song promos, action sequences, and romantic sojourns all crammed into a 90-second bouquet of sorts, Meiyazhagan takes a different route. We are introduced to the town of Needamangalam where a rather urbane character, played by Arvind Swamy, feels out of place. There is a wedding happening in the backdrop, and soon, we see him find a seemingly unlikely companion in his vibrant and naive townsman cousin played by Karthi.

From here, we have a collection of scenes that is reminiscent of the initial meet-cutes between Kamal Haasan and Madhavan in Anbe Sivam. We see Arvind gradually get equal parts amused and agitated by Karthi’s shenanigans that are unadulterated and pure from the heart. Govind Vasantha’s beautiful background score elevates the feel-goodness of the teaser, and sets the expectations at the perfect level ahead of the film’s release on September 27.

Backed by Jyotika and Suriya’s 2D Productions, Meiyazhagan has been shot by Mahendran Jayaraj, edited by R Govindraj, and also stars Sri Divya in a prominent role. Apart from Meiyazhagan, Karthi is also working on Nalan Kumarasamy’s Vaa Vaathiyaare, and PS Mithran’s Sardar 2.
