“Kodi Parakura Kaalam”, a new song from Maamannan, is out, and it is all about women’s empowerment. The song starts with a prologue of a woman lamenting about how she can’t do without her hero. The music in this particular segment sounds dated, denoting the outdated idea.

The song quickly then turns racy with another woman telling the lamenter that she is her hero and to stand up. She says, “Un Ondiveeran needhaandi (You are a hero).”

“Kodi Parakura Kaalam” gets pretty radical telling it’s alright to lose shame and pride. It also probes what do women get staying inside the house and toiling in the forest and makes a case for their rebellion.

The song is sung by Kalpana Raghavendar, Rakshita Suresh, Deepthi Suresh, and Aparna Harikumar.

Maamannan, produced by and starring Udhayanidhi Stalin in the lead role, has Keerthy Suresh, Vadivelu, and Fahadh Faasil in prominent roles. It marks the first collaboration between AR Rahman and Mari Selvaraj.

Talking about their collaboration, Mari got emotional at the audio launch of the film. He said that more than the songs it was the experience of working with Rahman that became a revelation. “I am a person with an inferiority complex. I am hesitant to do anything, but working with AR Rahman sir, I completely lost it,” the director said.
