Actress Jyotika has delivered yet another success with Bollywood film Shaitan, which has collected more than Rs 150 crore at the box office. In an interview with Pinkvilla, the actress remarked that the film is special to her as it marks the first commercially successful Hindi film in her career. Though Jyotika made her debut with Doli Saja Ke Rakhna (1998), she left Hindi cinema for Kollywood, where she became an instant hit. When asked the reason why she hasn’t done a Hindi film after her debut, the actress said, “I think I just got drifted away from here. I got busy in Tamil, and probably some kind of misconception… people thought I didn’t know Hindi or I was a South Indian. Fate of time. It feels great to be back. This is where I was born. Hindi is my mother tongue. So, it feels good to be back.”
Jyotika hasn’t acted with her husband Suriya in a long while, and there have been a lot of rumors that the actress is teaming up with the Tamil star for a film. One such speculation is that the star couple is teaming up with Malayalam filmmaker Anjali Menon for her debut Tamil directorial. When asked about the rumor, Jyotika said, “No. We are not working together now. That’s just rumour. We are waiting for the right script to come. We really hope someone has something really special for both of us. We don’t want to come together for the sake of it. We need the right script.”
Jyotika and Suriya have so far acted in seven films together– Povellam Kettupaar, Uyirile Kalandhathu, Kaakha Kaakha, Perazhagan, Maayavi, Juner R, and Silluni Oru Kaadhal. She married Suriya in 2006, and took a break from acting only to return with 36 Vayathinile in 2015. Since then the actress has done many Tamil films, but now Jyotika seems to be interested in Hindi projects.
Her next film, Srikanth, is a biopic of Srikanth Bolla, a visually challenged industrialist, and the founder of Bollant Industries. Jyotika is playing the role of his teacher in the film. Talking about Srikanth Jyotika said, “What really moved me about him was… He was on the sets and was very normal. The way I look at a visually challenged person completely changed after seeing him. He was more deserving than any of us, he was fun-loving and positive. We shot in the Bollant Industry and I was shocked to see that the place was run by visually challenged people. It was machinery and hardcore metal and they make it all look very easy.”
Directed by Tushar Hiranandani, the film stars Rajkumar Rao in the titular role, and it is set to be released on May 10.
