Having enjoyed a successful run for more than two weeks, Nelson Dilipkumar’s Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer is currently progressing through its third week in cinemas, albeit showcasing only a subdued performance. On its 20th day of screening on Tuesday, the actioner recorded an India nett of Rs 3.2 crore, marking an increase of Rs 15 lakh compared to the previous day, according to early estimates shared by industry tracker Sacnilk. This brought the total domestic earnings of the film to Rs 322.6 crore.
Meanwhile, the movie’s performance continues to shine on the global stage and with a gross collection of about Rs 374.35 crore in India and an additional Rs 190 crore from overseas markets, Jailer has now amassed a total worldwide collection of around Rs 564.35 crore. According to Sacnilk’s projection, the actioner is expected to record an India nett of Rs 2.78 crore on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the Rajinikanth film witnessed an overall 28.84 per cent Tamil occupancy. Initially, during the morning shows, the movie saw 19.11 per cent occupancy within the Tamil market. As the day progressed, the percentages experienced a consistent increase, rising to 29.46 per cent during the afternoon showings and peaking at 37.41 per cent for the evening screenings. During the night shows, the footfall dipped slightly and Jailer recorded an occupancy of 29.39 per cent.
Currently, the only movie standing between Jailer and the title of the “highest-grossing Tamil film of all time” is S Shankar’s science-fantasy action film 2.0 (2018), featuring Rajinikanth himself. According to Sacnilk, 2.0 amassed a global box office collection of Rs 723.30 crore during its theatrical run. Jailer had earlier surpassed the total collection of Mani Ratnam’s epic historical action movie, Ponniyin Selvan: I, which earned Rs 488.36 crore during its entire run.
After returning home from the Himalayas, Superstar Rajinikanth has again left for another tour. This time it’s to the bus depot in Bengaluru, where he worked as a conductor. In a trip down memory lane, he took pictures with Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus conductors and drivers.
Before his debut as an actor in K Balachander’s Apoorva Ragangal (1975), Rajinikanth worked as a bus conductor at the depot and did some plays in his free time. Encouraged by his friend Raj Bahadur, he went to acting school and eventually landed a role in Apoorva Ragangal, which had Kamal Haasan in the lead role.
After the brief visit to the depot, Rajinikanth also visited Raghavendra Swami Math in Bengaluru. He has been a devotee of Raghavendra and played the Hindu Saint in his 100th film Sri Raghavendra.
Rajinikanth will next team up with director TJ Gnanavel, who is known for the hit film Jai Bhim. Rajini is also rumoured to join Lokesh Kanagaraj for a film, which will be part of the director’s cinematic universe, which comprises Vikram and Kaithi.
