Jailer box office collection Day 2: Rajinikanth film continues rampage; poised to surpass Rs 100 crore mark today
Jailer box office collection day 2: After adding Rs 27 crore on Friday, Nelson Dilipkumar's new film, starring Superstar Rajinikanth in the lead role, is expected to generate Rs 30 crore on Saturday.

Superstar Rajinikanth has once again reaffirmed his title as “Thalaivar” by demonstrating his unparalleled ability to set the box office afire. Following its remarkable debut as 2023’s biggest Tamil opener, earning a staggering Rs 48.35 crore on its release day, August 10, the Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer managed to add Rs 27 crore on Friday, as per early estimates shared by industry tracker Sacnilk, setting the stage for an exceptional weekend ahead.
With this, Jailer’s India nett collections surged to Rs 75.35 crore, while its global revenue reached an impressive Rs 96.6 crore. The movie is expected to generate Rs 30 crore on Saturday, propelling it beyond the Rs 100 crore mark in the domestic market within merely three days of its release.
The film, helmed by Nelson Dilipkumar, also recorded an overall 69.12 percent Tamil occupancy on Friday. While the film witnessed a 47.49 percent occupancy in the Tamil market for morning shows, as the day progressed, the percentages steadily surged, reaching 64.28 percent for afternoon shows, 76.68 percent for evening shows, and an impressive 88.02 percent for night shows.
The theatres where the Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi versions of Jailer premiered also witnessed a substantial number of attendees on Friday. The overall occupancy for the Telugu screenings reached 61.01 percent, while the Kannada market recorded an overall occupancy of 30.38 percent, and the Hindi market achieved an overall occupancy of 31.73 percent.
Friday saw the release of three major movies: Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2 and Chiranjeevi’s Bhola Shankar. While Gadar 2 eked out an estimated Rs 40 crore, OMG 2 garnered Rs 9.5 crore, and Bhola Shankar Rs 20 crore on their debut day. This underscores that Jailer is poised to witness an impressive opening weekend.
Pointing out that Rajinikanth and Nelson Dilipkumar rediscover the alchemy of a good masala film with Jailer, The Indian Express’ Kirubhakar Purushothaman wrote in his review of the film: “Jailer is Rajinikanth’s version of Kamal Haasan’s Vikram, but with a twist. Saying that doesn’t take away anything from this fun-filled entertainer.”
This is occurring amidst the competition posed by the Alia Bhatt-Ranveer Singh movie Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani and Pawan Kalyan’s film Bro, both of which were released a fortnight ago.
The film stars Ramya Krishnan, Vinayakan, Yogi Babu and Vasanth Ravi in pivotal roles, apart from delightful cameos by Kannada superstar Shivarajkumar, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, Bollywood star Jackie Shroff, and Tamil star Tamannaah Bhatia.
