Dhanush starrer Jagame Thandhiram will start screening from 12.30pm on Netflix today. Fans share their excitement.

Dhanush's fans have always made huge cut-outs of the actor ahead of the First-Day-First-Show of the actor's film releases. So, how can they miss this time? Netflix India shares a video of the actor's cut-out ahead of Jagame Thandhiram.

Ahead of Jagame Thandhiram, Russo Brothers took to Twitter and shared the trailer of the film. Along with it, they wrote, "Super da thambi! Dhanush shared that he is quite confident that Jagame Thandhiram will click with everyone besides his fanbase. He said, “I like Suruli very much. I keep pestering Karthik Subburaj to write a sequel to Suruli. I like this character so much. I believe that my fans will love this film. I am also confident that besides my fans, others will also appreciate this film." 

Excited to watch Jagame Thandhiram? Before the film releases, check out what went into its making. 

The title Jagame Thandhiram, which roughly translates to 'this universe is a ruse', is borrowed from a Rajinikanth film. It appears in the opening lines of Rajinikanth’s song “Sambo Sivasambo” from the 1979 movie Ninaithale Inikkum.

“The working title of this film was Suruli. I liked it very much because it sounded very quirky. I thought it was right up Karthik Subbaraj’s alley. I felt a tinge of sadness when they changed the title to Jagame Thandhiram from Suruli. And after I saw the film. I realised Karthik was right. This film is not a regular run-of-the-mill mass masala film to name it Suruli. Yes, it has all the commercial elements like action, humour and so on. But, at the same time, this film also talks about a bigger issue. So Suruli as a title would not have justified the content of the film,” Dhanush shared.

During a conversation on Twitter Spaces about Jagame Thandhiram, Dhanush informed audiences that they will notice some Rajini-isms in his performance. “Karthi and I are die-hard fans of Rajini sir. And usually, without my knowledge, Rajini sir’s mannerisms would seep into my performances. In earlier films, if I noticed I was mimicking Rajini sir, I would correct it. But, in this film, Karthik said to me, ‘let it be’. So, you will see shades of Rajinikanth in Suruli. If you like it, please enjoy it. If you don’t, please be kind and don’t scold me,” said the actor. 

During an interaction, actor Dhanush shared, "Right now, everyone is so stressed under the lockdown and I am glad that this film would be a stress-buster for them.”

Actor Dhanush seems to be having mixed feelings about Jagame Thandhiram's digital release. During a conversation on Twitter Spaces, he said, “I feel like I waited for this film for a long time now. Finally, this movie is going to reach people, and I am very excited. I wish this film could have been released under better circumstances. And that makes me a bit unhappy.”

Jagame Thandhiram fan event ends with the hosts reminding everyone that the Netflix film will stream from 12:30 pm on June 18.

"Santhosh Narayanan and I were overjoyed by a tune. So to be sure, we asked Dhee to share her opinion about the tune. And she frankly told us it was bad. And she is the one who picked 'Rakita Rakita' beats from a few options that we gave her," says Karthik Subbaraj.

"The first thing James Cosmo asked me was whether he will get a song in the film to which he could dance. You can't blame him as Indian films are synonymous with musical numbers. And he kept asking me for that. But, I was unable to give him a song, and that made him a bit sad," says Karthik Subbaraj.

"After I auditioned for Jagame Thandhiram, Karthik Subburaj sir told me that the film was not happening right now as he was going to do a Rajinikanth film next. I thought it was his kind way of saying I did not make the cut. But, his associate got in touch with me a year later and offered me the role," says Aishwarya Lekshmi.

An exclusive behind-the-scenes video was played for the audience at the fan event.

"The idea for Jagame Thandhiram struck me when I was strolling through the streets of New York. Since all classic gangster movies were set in New York, I imagined what it would look like if we have a local gangster from Tamil Nadu walking among New York gangsters. That's how it began. But over the period, New York became London," says Karthik Subbaraj.

Fans of Dhanush from across the world have connected to the fan event via zoom call. Select fans from foreign countries are allowed to share their excitement at the event.

"We wanted to cast a Hollywood A-lister in the film. So when we decided to shoot the film in London, we wanted an actor who is based out of London. So James Cosmo was the top choice. When he heard about the film, he was very excited to be part of an Indian film. I thought it would be a challenge to work with him. But, he kept it cool and made us feel comfortable," says Karthik Subbaraj.

"As a filmmaker, you don't have to put in a lot of effort to extract good music from Santhosh Narayanan. You just have to give him a script that excites him and the rest he will take care," says Karthik Subbaraj.

"Jagame Thandhiram is a very important film in my career. It is my dream film. It came to my mind at the end of 2014, and it took six years to make it happen. It was a special experience for everyone in the cast and crew. It was a big challenge as most of the film was shot in London. But, we all enjoyed the challenges. I learnt a lot through this film," says Jagame Thandhiram director Karthik Subbaraj.
