Good Bad Ugly box office collection day 1: Ajith delivers biggest Tamil opener of 2025 with Rs 28 cr debut, overtakes his last release Vidaamuyarchi
Good Bad Ugly box office collection day 1: Ajith-starrer Good Bad Ugly has had a strong opening at the box office as it earned over Rs 28 crore and overtook Vijay's latest release GOAT, Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan and Ajith's last release Vidaamuyarchi.

Good Bad Ugly box office collection day 1: The Ajith-starrer Good Bad Ugly, which was released in theatres on Thursday, has delivered a strong opening at the box office. Directed by Adhik Ravichandran, the film saw an opening of Rs 28.5 cr nett in India, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. This is a similar opening to that of his previous film, Vidaamuyarchi, which earned Rs 26 crore on its first day of release. But Vidaamuyarchi tanked immediately afterwards, emerging as one of the biggest flops of Ajith’s recent career.
As per reports, with Good Bad Ugly day 1 box office earning, the film has also done better than Vijay’s Greatest of All Time (Rs 20.66 cr), Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan (Rs 14.66 cr) and Suriya’s Kanguva (Rs 8.49 crore), essentially scoring the biggest opening in Tamil Nadu recently.
On its opening day, Good Bad Ugly saw an overall occupancy of around 79 percent. In Chennai, the film had over 924 shows, which witnessed an overall occupancy of 95 percent and in Bengaluru, the film had 616 shows, which saw an overall occupancy of around 54 percent. Vidaamuyarchi was initially planned as a Pongal release, but was postponed due to undeclared reasons. When it released in February, it saw a big opening but the collections crashed soon after and the film could only make around Rs 80 crore nett during its entire theatrical run. The disappointing performance was blamed on the release window.
Ajith appeared in two other films after the pandemic, and both of them performed better than Vidaamuyarchi. Thunivu made around Rs 122 crore nett at the domestic box office and Valimai earned approximately Rs 106 crore at the box office.
Tamil cinema is yet to experience a breakout hit in 2025. So far, the highest grossing film of the year is Dragon, directed by Ashwath Marimuthu. Starring Pradeep Ranganathan, Anupama Parameswaran, Kayadu Lohar among others, Dragon started its box office journey with Rs 6.5 crore but eventually went on to make around Rs 102 crore
Good Bad Ugly will be facing some competition from Malayalam film Bazooka, starring Mammootty. Good Bad Ugly also stars Trisha Krishnan. In his review, SCREEN’s Avinash Ramachandran wrote, “Good Bad Ugly is a showreel of Ajith’s greatest hits with able support from the likes of composers Ilaiyaraaja, Vidyasagar, and Anirudh Ravichander. While it is high time directors stop naming Ajith’s character as AK in films, it feels alright here, simply because we don’t expect anything else from a filmmaker who is a self-confessed fanboy.
