Coolie Worldwide Box Office Collection Day 5: Coolie’s opening weekend performance has undoubtedly fortified the belief that Rajinikanth is the ultimate “Superstar” of Indian cinema. But the action drama’s decline at the box office reiterates the fact that, no matter whose film it is, audiences will abandon it if it falls short of their expectations. Despite the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial opening to a stunning Rs 65 crore nett in the domestic market and Rs 151 crore gross globally, helping it cross the Rs 400 crore mark worldwide in just four days, Coolie’s journey ahead won’t be a cakewalk, as average to negative reviews have already started affecting its prospects.

Although the movie passed the crucial first Monday test splendidly, earning double-digit revenue, its collection fell short compared to Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava and Ahaan Panday-Aneet Padda’s Saiyaara, which rank above Coolie in the list of the highest-grossing Indian films of 2025. Worse still, the Lokesh directorial’s first Monday collection is significantly lower than that of Rajinikanth’s previous blockbuster Jailer (2023). At a time when the movie is vying to cross the Rs 500 crore milestone in less than 10 days, thus breaking the record currently held by “Thalapathy” Vijay’s Leo (2023), this dip has slightly dampened the makers’ dream.

On Monday, Coolie recorded an India nett collection of Rs 12.15 crore, taking its total domestic earnings to Rs 206.67 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. Although it witnessed a 65.53 per cent dip in its daily earnings compared to Sunday, when the movie earned Rs 35.25 crore, it’s still faring significantly better than its box office rival, the Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR-starrer War 2, which managed to clock only Rs 8.4 crore.

Nonetheless, Coolie’s first Monday collection is far less than Chhaava and Saiyaara, both of which earned Rs 24 crore, raising doubts about whether the Rajinikanth-starrer will emerge as the highest-grossing Indian film of the year. Although Coolie fared better than the superstar’s last movie, Vettaiyan, which earned just Rs 5.6 crore on its first weekday in theatres, it couldn’t match the performance of his previous blockbuster, Jailer, which minted Rs 23.55 crore on the corresponding day.

On Monday, Coolie registered an overall occupancy of 32.18 per cent in the Tamil market. While the morning shows commenced with 23.58 per cent occupancy, the rate improved as the day unfolded, reaching 29.31 per cent in the afternoon and 38.07 percent in the evening. However, the figure witnessed a slight dip during night screenings and settled at 37.76 per cent.

Also starring Nagarjuna Akkineni, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj and Rachita Ram, as well as Aamir Khan in a cameo role, Coolie features music by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Girish Gangadharan and editing by Philomin Raj. In his review of the movie, SCREEN’s Arjun Menon wrote, “Lokesh Kanagaraj movie approaches Rajinikanth’s star persona with a mix of old-school veneration and a slight tongue-in-irreverance.”
