Chandramukhi 2 box office collection Day 4: Kangana Ranaut-Raghava Lawrence film picks up, earns Rs 23.89 cr in opening weekend

Although the film had a strong start with Rs 8.25 crore on its release day, September 24, it experienced a significant drop of 47.27 per cent in collections on Friday, bringing in just Rs 4.35 crore. However, after experiencing a better weekend, the film is anticipated to earn Rs 4.92 crore on Monday.

On Sunday, the horror comedy, a sequel to the 2005 film Chandramukhi that starred Jyotika and Rajinikanth in the lead roles, witnessed an overall 46.79 per cent Tamil occupancy. Initially, during the morning shows, the movie recorded a 27.09 per cent occupancy within the Malayalam market. However, as the day progressed, the percentages experienced a consistent rise: jumping to 51.69 per cent during the afternoon showings and reaching 57.96 per cent during the evening shows. But the percentage dipped slightly during the night screenings and stood at 50.40.

In his review of the film, The Indian Express’ Kirubhakar Purushothaman slammed Chandramukhi 2 and pointed out that one cannot help but compare the film with its first part because the sequel only tries to emulate its success. “There’s not a single original idea in here. Director P Vasu seems to have bet a lot on the nostalgia factor of the first part to help this film work. Chandramukhi 2, like its director, is just stuck in the past. ‘Let the sleeping dog lie’ goes the popular adage. Perhaps, it applies to ghosts and the legacy of films,” he noted.

Also starring Vadivelu, Lakshmi Menon, Raadhika Sarathkumar and Mahima Nambiar in key roles, the film’s soundtracks were crafted by Oscar-winning composer MM Keeravaani. Bankrolled by Subaskaran Allirajah under the banner of Lyca Productions, RD Rajasekhar handled its cinematography.
