Ashok Selvan on being part of Dhanush’s Idli Kadai: ‘I love Dhanush sir, but…’

While there was no official announcement, there were rumours that Ashok Selvan, Arun Vijay and Nithya Menen were part of Dhanush's upcoming film Idli Kadai.

One of the biggest news of Tamil cinema in recent times was the announcement of Dhanush’s upcoming film Idli Kadai. His 52nd project as an actor also marks his fourth directorial venture after Pa Paandi, Raayan, and Nilavukku Enmel Ennadi Kobam. While there were no official announcement about the cast and crew except for the addition of GV Prakash Kumar as the composer, and the producers of the film, there were rumours about Ashok Selvan being part of Idli Kadai. However, the actor took to social media to clarify that he is not starring in the Dhanush film.

Ashok Selvan wrote, “I love Dhanush sir, and an ardent fan and look forward to be working with him in the future, would like to clarify that I am not part of Idly Kadai (sic).” This has put to rest the rumours that he was playing Dhanush’s brother in the movie which also reportedly stars Arun Vijay as the antagonist and National award winner Nithya Menen.

Idli Kadai, which GV Prakash called “a rural magic musical”, is set in and around Theni, and marks the composer’s seventh collaboration with Dhanush. Backed by the actor-filmmaker’s Wunderbar Films along with Aakash Baskaran’s Dawn Pictures, Idli Kadai is expected to be a 2025 release.

On the work front, Ashok Selvan is speculated to be playing a pivotal role in Mani Ratnam’s Thug Life, which stars Kamal Haasan, Silambarasan TR, and Trisha. He also has Emakku Thozhil Romance and Gangs-Kuruthi Punal in various stages of production.
