Tamil actor Aditi Balan, who rose to fame with her debut film Aruvi, has been critical of the Tamil Nadu government for the way it has handled the Chennai floods and its devastating impact. The actor, a resident of Chennai, took to Instagram to lash out at the Chennai corporation for not taking necessary measures to help the people of Radhakrishnan Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur. She accused the government of helping influential people while not attending to the problems of the common man.

Aditi wrote, “Govt, where are you? I just went to Radhakrishnan nagar, Thiruvamiyur . Water from surrounding areas have been pumped into this area. There were dead animals floating around. We had to walk thro the entire stagnation to rescue 2 kids and their grandma. Meanwhile a boat with 6 cops rowed into river view road in Kottur Puram to pick up one influential lady (sic).”

On top of that, Aditi Balan also lashed out at CM MK Stalin as she was asked to make way for his convoy even while she was trying to get her family out of stagnant flood water. “Also, I was asked to move my car while waiting to pick up family that was walking through the stagnant water because the CM convoy was approaching. @chennaicorp @_chennaipolice_ @udhay_stalin @mkstalin Really? (sic),” she wrote.

Nothing has changed in Radhakrishnan nagar. People are still stuck there. Why isn’t anyone from the @chennaicorp reaching out to anyone there?

In another post, Aditi Balan asked if the DMK government is not helping the constituency where they were not elected.

However, both Vinodhini and Aditi are receiving backlash from many for their selective outrage. Videos of measures taken by the government and the corporation have been shared to negate their claims.

Chennai has been severely hit due to Cyclone Michaung. Several parts of the city have been flooded by the rainwater leaving many apartments, houses, and motor vehicles submerged in water. The rainfall and its impact are estimated to be worse than the floods of 2015.
