Following the success of Captain Miller, Tamil actor Dhanush is set to make a grand comeback with his second movie this year, Raayan, which is also his sophomore project as a director. Boasting a stellar cast and crew, the action thriller will hit the screens on Friday.

A notable name involved in the project is AR Rahman, who composed the film’s background score and songs. Apparently, Rahman accepted the film when he was already working on 30 other movies. “When I called Rahman sir, I informed him that this was my 50th film and wished to see the tag ‘An AR Rahman Musical’ along with it. He asked me to give him two days to respond. When he called back, Rahman sir told me that he was working on as many as 30 films at that moment. ‘It’s a very tough yes, but I am giving you a yes,’ he said. I will always cherish the memories of working with you,” Dhanush said during Raayan’s audio launch event.

Recalling their interactions for the movie, the actor-filmmaker said, “Whenever I needed a tune, I would play one of his songs and ask for a similar one. He would listen and say, ‘I have already done many like that. Let’s make something new.’ His willingness to churn out something fresh constantly, even after scaling such heights, amazed me. You are the only music director who has a punch dialogue, ‘Ella pugazhum iraivanukke (all glory to God)’. Those who heard the BGM are already saying, ‘Ella pugazhum Rahmanukke (all glory to Rahman).’ Thank you so much, sir.” Rahman and Dhanush have previously collaborated on films like Maryan (2013), Raanjhanaa (2013) and Atrangi Re (2021).

Also starring SJ Suryah, Prakash Raj, Selvaraghavan, Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, Aparna Balamurali and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar in key roles, the Dhanush directorial Raayan has been bankrolled by Kalanithi Maran under the banner of his Sun Pictures. Dhanush’s first movie as a director was the comedy-drama Pa Paandi (2017), starring Rajkiran and Revathi in the lead roles.
