Subhash Ghai, whose films have been known for its great music, is planning to re–launch his music label Mukta Music this year with his directorial venture Kaanchi. Although there were reports of him being keen on venturing into the music industry at the time of the release of Yaadein and Jogger’s Park in 2001 and 2003 respectively, things did not work out. “The music of my films, be it Karz, Hero, Khalnayak, Ram Lakhan,Taal and Yaadein, to name a few, have always been a hit.

People told me long ago, when I first got into production, that I should launch a music arm for my company. But my focus was different then,” said Ghai. But he ultimately launched his own music division called Mukta Music with the Vivek Oberoi-starrer Kisna. Although no other film from his stable came out under the music label after Kisna and even Ghai opted to sell the music rights of Yuvvraaj to T-series; the film-maker is all gung ho to bring back his music label to life with Kaanchi.

When quizzed about his decision to re-launch the label, Ghai stated, “Now that we are making Kaanchi, which is a big musical thriller, and we are going all out with the film, we thought this would be the best time to re-launch the music arm. We have decided to ramp up our distribution, exhibition and production business a great deal. The music industry has become so much more transparent.”

Post this project, the label won’t be limited to just films under the Mukta Arts banner, but will also be open to other production houses as well. Apart from releasing the music for his home production- Mukta Arts, Mukta Music also looks forward to widening its horizon and produce, acquire and distribute music under this label.

Rock on!

Actor Farhan Akhtar got his rockstar mode on, as he performed live at the Pillai Group of Institution’s four-day intercollegiate festival, Alegria–The Festival of Joy at the Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Campus, New Panvel. Titled Farhan Live, the concert was held on the first day, where Akhtar performed for two hours straight in front of a packed audience of college students. To create a rock-like ambience to the event, he sang several hit songs like Rock on, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Senorita among others.
