He rose to fame with his excellent performance in Ardh Satya and after that there was no looking back for Sadashiv Amrapurkar, who went on to experiment with most of his roles. The actor, who mostly specialised in negative characters, lost a long battle to lung infection on November 3. Sixty-four-year-old Amrapurkar passed away at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, in Mumbai, where he had been undergoing treatment for some time. He is survived by his wife Sunanda and three daughters.
One of his other brilliant performances was his negative role in the 1991 film Sadak where he played an eunuch, who runs a brothel besides his role of Ajay Devgn’s strict father in Ishq. The actor, who was part of over 300 movies in languages like Marathi, Bengali, Haryanvi and Oriya and has even won a few awards, also had films like Ishq, Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge, Kachche Dhaage, Mohra, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Aankhen, Coolie No 1, Gupt: The Hidden Truth, Aunty No 1, Bewafa Sanam,Hafta Bandh, Doodh Ka Karz, Naaka Bandi, Eeshwar in Hindi and Doghi, Kadachit and Savarkhed: Ek Gaav in Marathi, to name a few.
Last year, during the Holi festival, when Amrapurkar protested against water wastage near his residence in Mumbai, he was man-handled by a group of lumpen elements.
The actor’s body was kept at Mumbai’s Bhaidas Hall for last respects before it was taken to his native place, Ahmednagar for cremation.
