Ranveer Singh was extremely apprehensive when doing a chase sequence atop a train for Gunday
It was Wathar near Panchgani that two very elaborate train action sequences for Gunday were shot. Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor who play coal bandits in the film steal coal from coal trains and escape with their booty. For Singh, running atop moving trains was the most daring and scary stunt that he had performed for a film. And to top it, he had to look extremely confident about what he was doing.
Scared out of his wits
“It was so scary! Chasing a guy on top of a moving train, and we had to shoot it without a harness. I have been injured several times on film sets doing action sequences and was a bit apprehensive, but my co-star Arjun Kapoor said, ‘We get to do these things once in our life, man, let’s just do it’. So I went for it. I don’t know about Arjun, but I was sh***ng bricks while shooting for these scenes. I can’t say at what speed the train was moving, but if you are atop a train without a harness running behind someone, even 30 km an hour can feel fast. Thankfully, the scene was canned in three takes,” said the actor, who still gets goosebumps, thinking about it.
What gave him confidence was the fact that the sequence was directed by action director Sham Kaushal. “Sham has conceptualised action sequences for several films for both, Arjun and me, so we have a great comfort level with him and his team. I am sure he would not have asked us to do it, if it was very dangerous, but frankly by any common standard it can be considered a frightful stunt,” reiterated Singh.
Gunday is produced by Aditya Chopra and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, releases on February 14.
