There are two versions of the peppy Indiawaale track in Happy New Year. One that is a party scene in a hotel owned by Jackie Shroff and the second is the climax sequence where the entire team dances at the World Dance Championship. Shah Rukh Khan, Boman Irani, Abhishek Bchchan, Deepika Padukone, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah rehearsed for a week and a half before the actual shoot began. The actors would rehearse diligently for several hours each day at SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment office.
“It’s amazing how Shah Rukh Khan helped all of us when it came to dance style, emotions, steps and the co-ordination between all the artistes. Every day Shah Rukh sir would come sit with the choreographers and work on his moves and after that he would spend two to three hours just helping all of us. Abhishek sir and Deepika didn’t need any help because they are naturally adept at dancing. Though both Boman and Sonu sir are great dancers, they needed a bit of help and I needed all the guidance because Bollywood form of dancing was new to me. Everyone worked extremely hard to get the moves right,” said Vivaan Shah adding that the song was Farah Khan’s creation, but was executed by choreographer Geeta Kapur and her team.
The most memorable moment said Shah was when SRK gave him a pat on the back on the first day of shoot.
“I was the weakest dancer and everyone, including Farah ma’m thought that I would make some mistake, but I had rehearsed so hard, that I did not make one wrong move,” smiled the actor happily.
Produced by Red Chillies Entertainment and directed by Farah Khan, Happy New Year releases this Diwali.
