When it comes to exotic locations in India, Mandawa a heritage village some 190 km off Jaipur in Rajasthan, can be easily counted amongst them. Director Dr Chandraprakash Dwivedi who shot his film Zed Plus in this heritage village reveals that it houses over 100 havelis.
“Since my film is set in a village in Rajasthan I was planning to put up a set, but the locations in Mandawa were so apt that we shot the entire film here over 58 days. The state government was kind and we easily got permission to shoot at the local police-station, the local bazars and the hospital there without any problem. The havelis are mostly under caretakers who connect film-makers to the owners. Generally the owners too were are supportive the only criteria being that their property is not damaged.” said Dwivedi adding that there are several of heritage villages like Mandawa in Rajasthan which can be explored by film-makers.
“Every second house is a haveli in these villages and I shot in about four of them. In fact some scenes of PK were shot in Mandawa and an Arabic serial was filmed in one haveli which has now been converted into a hotel,” he said.
The film revolves around Aslam Puncturewala, played by Adil Hussain, who is provided Z-level security by the Prime Minister, on the basis of a complaint lodged by him. What happens when a commoner is given this high-level security, is what the film is all about.
Produced by Mukund Purohit and Mandira Kashyap, the film also stars Mona Singh, Mukesh Tiwari, and Sanjay Mishra and is slated to release on November 21.
