Actor Vijay Raghavendra shares details of wife Spandana’s final moments: ‘I wish nobody experiences the pain of…’

The sudden demise of Spandana (41), the wife of Kannada actor Vijay Raghavendra, had shocked both the film fraternity and the general public. She passed away in Bangkok on August 6 after having a heart attack.

Now, nearly a month later, Vijay has chosen to share the details of her final moments. Speaking to Kannada news channel NewsFirst, while promoting his upcoming film Kaddha Chithra, Vijay disclosed that he was with Spandana when she breathed her last.

Vijay said, according to OTTPlay, that he realised Spandana was slipping away when he tried to wake her up for their hotel check-out in Bangkok. Noticing that she was unresponsive with a very low pulse, Vijay said that he blanked out for a few moments during which he couldn’t move or react. Despite this, he said he managed to compose himself and rushed her to the hospital, but couldn’t save Spandana’s life.

Speaking about the challenges of coping with grief and the profound changes in his life, a devastated Vijay said that he wishes nobody has to experience the pain of losing a loved one, News18 reported.

Vijay also mentioned that although he may wear a smile when facing others, it’s difficult for him to do so in front of his son. Vijay explained that this is because his son is a reminder of Spandana, and he cannot act in front of him. “I leave when I feel alone,” News18 quoted Vijay as saying.

Following her demise, Spandana’s brother-in-law Srimurali said she died in her sleep. “Spandana slept on the night of August 6, and did not wake up the next morning due to low blood pressure.”

Daughter of retired Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), BK Shivaram, Spandana tied the knot with Vijay in 2007 and the couple has a son, named Shourya.

Apart from making a cameo appearance in V Ravichandran’s 2016 movie Apoorva, she had also produced a couple of her husband’s films, as reported by India TV. The tragic incident happened just 19 days before the couple’s 16th wedding anniversary. On August 27, 2022, during their last wedding anniversary, Vijay went on social media to post an adorable picture of them together. He wrote: “We are eternally indebted to you for your love and blessings on our wedding anniversary 🙏🏼😇🙏🏼”
